Digest Format Customization?

Coleen_Astalos
Is it possible to customize the digest format to include more than just the first two lines?

My users are currently used to seeing the entire text of each message (coming from Yahoogroups).  I like the idea of the link to the post on the forum and think that will drive more people to the website.  But with the amount of traffic we get each day, it would be helpful to have a bit more of the information displayed in the digest (Maybe the first 10 lines) so they can decide from the text whether they want to go there to read more.

(And it would be nice if the message text was indented and in a slightly smaller font - am I asking for too much )

Thanks,
Coleen

I just did a search for a macro containing the word "digest" and picked "digest_text", the most obvious of the seven results.

This seems to include a hard-coded variable of 200 hundred characters. I suspect all you need to do is increase that value to increase the message quote. (Haven't tried it as I don't use a digest subscription myself.)

No, it's not asking too much. You are, of course, able to customise the NAML in your forum.

After looking at "digest_text" I then went to the "digest_email" macro and realised that the HTML and text parts of the digest email can be truncated individually, so set an appropriate value in "digest_html" was well!

I looked at "digest_email" as I was trying to work out how to set the indent you request. Given the technique used in the HTML part of the mail to size the font of the subject it would appear that the easiest way to set the indent in that part would be to wrap the digest quote in an appropriately styled < div> tag. Indenting the text version would appear to be a little trickier, but I am sure those who use plain text email programs could tolerate a lack of indent!

Awesome!  Thanks Greg.  I'll look into doing it and share if I get it figured out.

I was able to do this by simply increasing the number of characters to display (and I also changed the font size to smaller).  But if there is a replied to message, it keeps going with those characters as well.  Would be nice if it could be stopped at the end of the new message.  But that's likely beyond my knowledge to change at this point.
