Nabble1 is the old system from Nabble, which runs in http://old.nabble.com.
Nabble2 is the new system, which has a distributed architecture with several servers (like www, n2, n3 and n4). New Nabble2 features are described in this page: http://n2.nabble.com/Nabble-Latest-Features-f1559156.html Nabble2 is faster and has less clutter. The main features are: - Better embedding; - built-in email subscriptions (you can post and reply by email); - Custom domain names (e.g., www.myforum.com) - Several interface options (forum, blog, news, gallery, etc.); - Privilege control on who can view and post messages (i.e., private forums) - Shared user accounts, as explained here. - Online/Offline indicator (per forum); - Stars to add/remove your favorite forums and posts; - Pin/Unpin topics (aka sticky topics); - Better user experience; - Spam control. New features for Nabble2 are under development, such as: - Templates: will let you build the UI as you want and even create your own node-oriented system; - Custom sub-domains: you will be able to create a forum URL like myforum.nabble.com; - Social Networking; - Content management; - Modules. You will probably have to wait a few months until you see these upcoming features in the new system. If you plan to migrate your forum from Nabble1 to Nabble2, you must know that: - Ratings have been removed since they are commonly misused and affects user ego; - If you don't have an account in the new system, you will have to register again (accounts from the new system won't work on Nabble2) |
hey hugo
re custom sub-domains - can i use my own domain instead -- ie. http://myforum.mydomain.com as well ( ie. posterous style) ? cheers justin |
Hi Justin, the answer is yes. This will be part of the custom domain implementation.

Two things I really miss from Nabble1:
* The quickjump to my favorite forums. * The Breadcrumb navigation so that I can quickly get back to the main Nabble page. In Nabble2, if I am inside a forum, I don't see any way to either jump to another one of my favorite forums, or navigate back to the main page. Once I am at the main page, I can select `My Starred Items` and get to forums that I have starred, but if I am inside a forum, I don't see a way to jump to directly to one of my starred forums. |

What is the difference in rights (or status) between:
1) People: Members on the main menu of a forum; 2) Options: Users: Who are Members?; 3) Options: Users: Current Subscribers. How should I set and what to tell members of private mailing list about their status? |

Perhaps both the Members should mean and display the same thing. Dainius Kaupaitis found the snag: while adding &filter=members to the URL of People (Members) — all the members are shown there, too. Screenshots and explanation here:

We redesigned the "People" page and this should work fine from now on (the problem was related to cache). Please take a look and let me know if you have issues.

Oh, very informative — many thanks!

I am still not sure, the meaning of terms are not clear for me.
1) Subscriber — by email, not necessary registered on the Web? 2) Registered user — on that Web forum, not necessary by email? 3) Member of the forum — both email and WWW? One or few of members are also full-rights administrators. And registered users (2) sometimes may also appear online (logged in the webforum). There are screenshots. |

Did Nabble2 break followups going back to the source? Several Apache projects are reporting
that messages posted on Nabble are not being sent to the original mailing lists. This is a serious issue since it causes projects to appear non-responsive without any redress. Here is a sample: On Sep 23, 2010, at 7:49 AM, sebb wrote: > I've been seeing a lot of moderation messages for JMeter user mailing > list recently, which I rejected, asking the user to subscribe. > > I could not understand why there seemed to be replies to messages that > had not been seen on the JMeter user list, but it now appears that the > conversation "Random variables in a test script by sprozzy" has > taken place entirely within Nabble [1] > > There is no record of the Nabble threads on our mail archives [2], nor > within Markmail. A user on stackoverflow.com was reporting that they were getting ignored on our lists and that the project had bad support. I dug in and it seems several nabble posted emails were never delivered and I certainly haven't seen moderation requests for any of them -- and I do occasionally see and approve nabble posts that hit moderation. This month alone all of the following have no trace in our archives: Oct 13, 2010 - Custom classpath by kicolobo http://openejb.979440.n4.nabble.com/Custom-classpath-tp2993807p2993807.html - @WebService without @Stateless by typhoon http://openejb.979440.n4.nabble.com/WebService-without-Stateless-tp2993404p2993404.html Oct 12, 2010 - Using OpenEJB to test EJB 2.1 beans by David P http://openejb.979440.n4.nabble.com/Using-OpenEJB-to-test-EJB-2-1-beans-tp2990041p2990041.html - HttpServletRequest in webservice by typhoon http://openejb.979440.n4.nabble.com/HttpServletRequest-in-webservice-tp2969409p2969409.html Oct 07, 2010 - DI Overriding @EJB in ejb-jar.xml by MarcusDidius http://openejb.979440.n4.nabble.com/DI-Overriding-EJB-in-ejb-jar-xml-tp2967090p2967090.html Oct 06, 2010 - How to configure single-threaded JMS queue listener (MDB) by grigory http://openejb.979440.n4.nabble.com/How-to-configure-single-threaded-JMS-queue-listener-MDB-tp2965656p2965656.html Oct 05, 2010 - TransactionManager not found by Dick Moore http://openejb.979440.n4.nabble.com/TransactionManager-not-found-tp2955623p2955623.html User list archive: http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbox/openejb-users/201010.mbox/browser If I had to guess, I'd say this started in May. A very large percent of our list traffic comes from Nabble. In May our list traffic, which was steadily inclining over years, dropped to half and has stayed there [1]. It hasn't been this low since 2007. Meanwhile our google analytics are still showing increased traffic. Hoping to get some Message-IDs from them. |
