Delete a post

I followed a previous post regarding how to delete a post, however, when I click on the "More" link, there is no "Remove post from forum" option.  Pls advise...also how do I block spam from hitting my forum?

You may not have been logged in as an administrator (i.e. with the email address you used when you created the forum). If you are, or if you are author of the post to be deleted, you should see one or both of these options:

Delete post
Delete post and replies

When using the "Delete post" option the contents of the post will be replaced with a message that says you have deleted the content of the post. (the shell of the message has to be retained in order to retain the "hook" for any replies can link to.)

Using "Delete post and replies" will remove the message entirely, but also removes all replies. (This is the only option offered when a message is the most recent in the thread and will remove the post entirely.)

If you want to completely remove a post but leave replies, the process is more complicated and the technique has limitations. (Essentially, it involves setting up a hidden sub-forum, moving the offending post there, then moving all the replies back to the original forum. Hidden forums don't work with all apps hence the limitation of the technique).
how do I block spam from hitting my forum?
There is no single simple answer to this, but the following post gives some guidance on controlling who may post:

Re: Delete a post

I do not see any such option which includes the words "delete" or "remove".  I am signed in as the administrator.  I have a spammer peddling porn on my professional forum that I want to remove.  I open up the post, then click "More", and there are three options:

- Reply to author
- Print post
- Permalink

Please advise ASAP.

Thank you.

In that case something is not right.

Can you confirm that when you click on your username at the top right of the screen and select "Account settings" the screen shows at least the following group memberships:

Groups: Administrators, Anyone, Registered

If it does then you need to post the URL of your forum here so a member of the Nabble team can investigate.

Then it is not recognising that the user you are logged in as is the administrator.

Can you confirm that the user that appears at the bottom of your forum's main page where is says "Created by" is the same user that appears at the top right of the page.

Re: Delete a post

No, the "created by" is followed by the name of the company that I am working for.  The name of the person on the upper right is the president of the company.  How do I change the "created by" to his name...or better yet, how do I determine the email address of the "created by" entity...that would allow me to login as admin wouldn't it?

Re: Delete a post

You confused me by talking of "my forum" when you are not logging in as the creator/administrator i.e. as the user "Company".

You are logging in a the user "President". The two users are completely different. No wonder you don't have administrator rights.

An author can always delete their own post but only administrators can delete other user's posts.

The user who created the forum (i.e. The Company) will initially be the only administrator. That user needs to login and add others to the Administrator group in order to give them the right to delete other user's posts and carry out other administrative functions.

Re: Delete a post

And therein lies the problem.  We all assumed the President/owner is the administrator, and yet he is not.  Thus no one knows how to login, assign or reassign administrator role.  Please advise on next steps as it appears we have hit the wall.
