Hello,
Yesterday while the Forum Administrator was performing some type of website manipulations all of my material was deleted. I am not exactly sure how this could have happened, possibly mistakenly banned my account and then unbanned me? I did change my nick name but not the email address so just changing my viewable nick name would not delete all of the material posted by that account, or would it? Anyhow the how is not really the problem as I am not banned on the forum. But, since my material has been deleted there are hundred of messages everywhere I had posted comments etc the now say "Message has been deleted" or what ever that message is... How can I remove those or how can I get someone else to remove those? I would really like to figure out a way to clean those up so people quit sending me message asking why it is like that... Also there has been a person recently banned from that forum and they are gone but the same thing with there material it has all been deleted but his picture still shows up and it just has that same message "Material deleted" or what ever it says, why isnt that all deleted when a person is banned and is there a way to get rid of that, the forum is starting to look bad having all those blank messages everywhere... The form in question is "Borderland-Beat" my account nickname on their now is ØÑË ÐØLLÅ® the banned account that still has ghost messages is "Swanka" Thank you for your time... |
Are you the administrator of the forum? If yes, you should see an option to delete posts recursively, so you could easily get rid of those blank messages. Besides that, when a message is deleted from the forum, the author receives an email with the contents of the message so that he/she has a chance to save it somewhere else.
Those blank messages are needed in order to keep thread structures intact when someone is banned or decides to leave the forum. In the past we used to deleting those messages and we got tons of complains about broken threads, so we believe the blank messages solution is better than what we had. |
Ah, I was wondering about that! Although, in the case of a one-message thread, it is worse because it keeps spam threads visible, allowing "New Balance 574 Dames Goedkoop" to remain with the legitimate threads. Maybe in this special case, deleting would be more appropriate? |
I cannot say I have ever seen a system generated "Contents deleted" message unless that post had replies and so is required is required to keep a thread/topic together - as Hugo describes.
If a post is the last in a topic then, in my experience, it is deleted completely. I wonder if what you are experiencing is a banned user's message that had a reply at the time of the banning, but once it showed as "Contents deleted" the person who replied to it, decided to delete their own message. I doubt that the system re-checks previous messages in a topic to see if the "Contents deleted" message is needed any longer.
Volunteer Helper - but recommending that users move off the platform!
Once the admin for GregHelp now deleted. |
