Customising Topics

Gamods
How would one customize the little line of text saying " This post was updated on Jul 12, 2012; 7:06pm" within a post? Is there a way to remove that line of text?

Search for a NAML macro that contains the phrase "This post was updated on" and you find it occurs in "updated_notice". The link "Usages of this macro" shows it is called from quite a number of places. Find the one that affects the type of post you want to control and delete or comment out the code that calls the macro and you should have cracked it.

I'm a bit new to this, but where would you search for a macro that contains those words..?

First click the "See how NAML generates this page" link towards the bottom right of your forum. Then click the "cog wheel" button and select "Search Macros". Insert the text to search for into the box, maiking sure the option "Macro source contains" is selected. In your case you'll find there's only one result found.

Of course, editing macros is a bit technical, but it will be the only way to make the change you want. You'll find it easy enough if you're half familiar with HTML or any modern programming language. (I tend to fall down with the "Modern programming language" bit, so don't expect me to be the fount of all wisdom on NAML!)

Very easily!

When you make a change you over-ride the original macro, rather than replace it and NAML always has a "Remove this over-ride" option available on any macro you change.
