Hi, I was just looking at the "How can I replace my mailing list with Nabble's email subscriptions" writeup, and I think this was probably written a while ago, and does not appear to correspond to how Nabble works today.
So I'm curious, what exactly needs to be done to break the ties with a mailing list, so that I just have a standard Nabble forum? I went into "Mailing List Archive" settings, and while I can hide the archive information from the users, I cannot remove the mailing list address or mailing list website from the settings. Maybe "hiding" is all I need to do? Thanks, Marc |
Hmmm, it looks like hiding the archive from the users is all that's really needed... I guess Nabble then no longer pays any attention to the mailing list after that?

I am not quite clear exactly what you are seeking to achieve. Surely, you are not trying to hide your archive from users but the mail list itself?
By having a Nabble subscription to a mail list hosted elsewhere, you create a an archive of postings to the mail list which is accessible via a web interface - in effect, a "Forum" - so you already have a forum. I have not tried this but assume that you only need to remove the Nabble subscription from your mail list and close your mail list down. You will then be left with a stand-alone forum which still holds all the old mail list postings for people to browse.

Yes, what I am trying to do is shut down the mailing list itself, and then change whatever settings are needed within Nabble so that it is now simply a "Nabble Forum", not a "Mailing List Archive". It would appear that the "hidden" checkbox is all that is needed for that. Nabble won't let me remove the settings for address of the mailing list, the mailing list website, the mailing list subject tag, which is what prompted my question. But it appears that these settings don't do anything once you've selected "hidden". Thanks, Marc |
I'm afraid I've never used a Nabble Mail List archive so haven't seen that setting, but I suspect that you are right. I'm guessing your right. Unlike a mail list where the software normally only tracks current subscriptions, in a forum, cleaning out dormant or unused registrations is not normally possible. I suspect that what you are describing is similar to that. I'm sure one of the Nabble Team will confirm (or correct) this soon.

However, if I try to do the above, it won't let me. If I remove the "Mailing List Address", it comes back and gives me an error -- "You must enter a valid email address". That was why I asked. However, it appears that I can just leave the name of the mailing list in there, and it doesn't do any harm? Marc |
Please, give your forum url. I want to check something.
