Can anyone tell me how to delete a registered user?

Uncle Alan
I've got a user having problems and the only way I can imagine to let him get out and back in (he can't access the forum because he's registered and it won't let him) is to delete him. But I see no way for an administrator to do this!

I can't imagine a forum that doesn't let the admin delete a user. Is there some process I'm missing somewhere? Do I need to make him a member first THEN delete him?

All I see is BAN user. I don't want to ban him or his email. I just want to delete him so he can start over with the same email he was using, register "clean" and see if he can't get in.

Wouldn't it be better to sort out his real problem, i.e. why he can't log in, rather than try a work-around of deleting him, so he can just re-create the account?

What are his exact symptoms?

It may just be a question of the user needing to report the forum URL and username here and allowing the folk at Nabble to send him a new password so he can then log into his account and then change to one he likes.

Only the user himself can delete an account. Of course, that assumes he is using the right address and password and can gain access to the account to delete it.

I don't know of any forum software that does allow you to delete a user, but maybe I haven't searched hard enough. It seems to be the assumption that forum users just drift away. It's not like a mail list, where it is important that you can remove addresses from a distribution list.
All I see is BAN user.
That's because the assumption is people either drift away or cause trouble. As admin you only have to worry about those who cause trouble. It's why what you need to do is sort out the real problem, which is why he can't login in the first place. The most likely cause is entering a wrong email address or password. It is easy enough for you to confirm that he is using the correct email address. After that you must assume that either there is a wrong password being used or there is an fault in the system.

That's why Nabble need to be told.

To Nabble: Perhaps there should be a new feature added that allows admins to issue a new password for users in trouble?

Re: Can anyone tell me how to delete a registered user?

Thanks for jumping right in, Greg! I'm still new to Nabble and feeling my way around.

I originally set up my forum to be embedded and redirected to a Web paged that's protected by a membership software package. The membership software allows me to add a touch of PHP code to the top of any HTML page, rename the page to .php and restrict access for up to four levels.

I'm using Nabble to provide the forum (ads shut off) that is part of the membership level the page is on.

No -- the pages aren't generated by PHP...there's just a script snippet.

This particular member is having a problem accessing the forum on the Web page (15 others so far have had no problems at all -- it's working fine). He can get into the membership login and go to the page -- but Nabble doesn't show up. The TOP of it does...but not the LOGIN/REGISTER link or anything else. It just looks like there is something blocking it.

I believe this particular issue is the fault of the membership software somewhere...not "playing nice" with the embeded NABBLE or something...and I have their support looking into it.

Meanwhile, I turned OFF redirecting the forum. I'm doing this with two separate Nabble forums -- one for Level 1 members and one for Level 2 members. Level 2 members get access to level 1 AND 2.

Everything is working fine for 15 members, like I said -- but this guy. He can log in, go to both Level 1 and Level 2 pages, and see everything BUT the Nabble forum itself. It's there...but not accessible.

I turned off redirecting so he could try accessing the forums from the NABBLE link and this works fine, leading me to believe it is something with the membership software script. He was able to register easily for the Level 1 Forum. However, I originally logged into the membership site as him using his credentials and set up his access to the Level 2 forum. But now he says he can GET to the Level 2 forum by using the direct Nabble link, but he can't log in...it won't let him request a new password, either, but reports he is already a member.

I was going to delete his user when I couldn't see a way to send him a new password reset link, and have him participate via email until the membership software programmers can get the problem sorted out.

It's complicated -- but that's also why I asked about deleting users. As members pay they can join the forums. When they stop paying, I wanted to delete them from the forums. I can delete their membership in the membership software and they are locked out...but then I realize they could still get the emails and continue...I guess then we could ban them if they continue posting.

Long-winded and I apologize. I have a hard time "un-complexing it" any more than that.  :)

Mmm! I see why it needed a long explanation and it appears quite possible that my suggestion of admin being able to reset passwords would have no benefit in this case.

I don't think it's one I can help with. I suspect that it needs one of the Nabble Team to take a look at your site and see the page in which it is embedded. That would mean you posting the URL  either here or in a private mail to one of the team.

Exactly. I would love to have Nabble Support take a peek...though I am still pretty convinced this is the membership script throwing a wrench in the works. But the ability to send members a reset link would be VERY helpful when testing, etc.

What do you do about users who have registered without sanction from admin? That is for SPAM or fraud reasons?
