we do have some trolls and it seems like our "Banned Users" aren't really banned. I've banned users and it says "You can also manage banned users in The Sloopin Message Board."
When I ban a user and then go to this page, no one is in there. This is frustrating because the person then re-registers and continues to troll.
When you ban someone you are warned that this process is inefficient! All banning does is stop the user of that address posting on a forum. It cannot stop that person obtaining another address and re-registering.
If you are plagued with trolls then you need to remove the user permissions to "Create_topic" and "Reply" from those in the "Anyone" and "Registered" groups and add them to the "Members" group.
You then have the task of placing only trustworthy users in the "Members" group. How you do that is up to you.
On my forum at:
http://www.seahawk17.plus.com/forum.htmI only allow registered users to post in certain areas ("Introduce Yourself" and "Forum Issues"). Once they have posted an appropriate message I add the user to the "Members" group and they can then post almost anywhere. I then have the option to remove them from the "Members" group if the post inappropriately.
This forum uses a different approach to unwelcome posts. Hidden away on the "Free Support > Archive" area is a further sub-forum called "Spam" and unwelcome posts get moved there by certain authorised users and then deleted by Nabble staff.
(Saying that no one appears on the Banned user page when you claim you've banned them doesn't sound right. Describe exactly the process you go through.)
