Anonymous view of <http://n2.nabble.com/user/UserNodes.jtp?user=19440&filter=forums> reveals the name of at least one forum that requires authorisation to view contents.

AFAICT the publicity of the name occurs only if the parent is visible to the public.

For forum owners who wish to draw public attention to the existence of private content, this is fine; the intended viewer clicks the forum, then completes the form to request access.

For forum owners who wish to both
a) restrict access to the content 
and 
b) obscure the name of the container, an improvement suggestion:

[ ] Everyone Can View & Post
[ ] Everyone Can View, Only Authorized Can Post
[x] Only Authorized Can View & Post
    [ ] name of forum visible to the public
    [x] name of forum obscured (invitation only)
