forum post time/flag?

Biocaml
I have two questions -- how long does it usually take to go from an e-mail posted to the group to the forum? I e-mailed a message out last night, and it still hasn't showed up.

My other question is, next to the "options" button, there is a flag that can be toggled to either grey or red -- what does it do?

Thanks!

It shouldn't take that long. Please make sure that you are a subscriber of the mailing list and - if you are the owner of the forum archive - please make sure the Nabble forum is correctly subscribed to the mailing list. Otherwise Nabble won't receive the emails and the archive won't work correctly. For example, your forums should have:
http://n2.nabble.com/mailing_list/SubscribeToMailingList.jtp?node=1670826
http://n2.nabble.com/mailing_list/SubscribeToMailingList.jtp?node=1670721

This works like a favorites list. When you flag a forum, you can easily find it by clicking on the red flag on the top right corner of your screen (after your user name).

Thanks for the quick reply. I am still having difficulties, however. I deleted one of the forums, set it up again, and subscribed the forum to the mailing list, this time manually. However, it's still not getting the e-mails! Does it usually take a whole day for the mails to get incorporated into the forum? What else could I be doing wrong?

After doing a few more tests, the specific problem I am having is that the forum only receives e-mails from the list administrator (my own e-mail actually, which is biocaml@biocaml.org [talk about redundancy!]). I've disabled the "restrict new topics" setting, but even that doesn't work. Help!

If the forum received at least one email from the list, then it was correctly setup. For the other emails you tested, are you sure they are subscribed to your mailing list? Did you get the email from the mailing list (in your administrator inbox) when you sent a message with the other email?

Yes. The administrator e-mail got the message sent to the list via the non-administrator e-mail. However, the forum did not get the message.

I see new messages in your forum.
Are they what you have been waiting for?

There are messages indeed. In fact, all of my posts *except from my main address* [hidden email] are going through. Perhaps they are being marked as spam?

For example, in the biocaml-devel list, there is only one e-mail that got through -- from me. We've already sent about five messages to each other, they've all gotten through fine, but the forum isn't picking them up for some reason.

Re: forum post time/flag?

I found one of the messages that was ignored by Nabble. That message didn't have any reference to the mailing list in the message headers. Nabble ignores messages like that because they are most likely to be spam. The full message (with headers) is here. Note that you can't find not even one reference to lists.biocaml.org in that email. You should check your mailman configuration to enable headers with such mailing list information.

Another option for you is to use Nabble's mailing list software, which is fully integrated with the forum. All your users have to do is click on "Options > Subscribe to this forum" on the forum page. They can post messages and reply by email like any other mailing list. More information at http://n2.nabble.com/Email-Subscriptions-tp1559160p1559160.html

Re: forum post time/flag?

Biocaml

I suspected something like this was going on. It's strange, because my administrative e-mail gets the following, which has headers and all, from the same e-mail address:

I checked the mailman configuration, and it has headers configured. Could it be that the spam filter picked me up once for some reason, and now it is picking me up permanently?

Thanks for all your help,
