embedded Nabble 2 search results lead to address bar presentation of URLs that do not relate to the results

Graham Perrin
= Example =

 1. at <http://plone.org/support/forums

 2. enter search string:

    simplon.plone.ldap plone.app.ldap

 3. click a result

 4. in the window of the browser, the expected content may appear.

= Bugs =

 a. Whilst the _content_ of the window may be correct, the _URL in the address bar_ fails to change.

Where we expect to see a message-specific URL, instead we see <http://plone.org/support/forums>

— users expect that URL to present the entire forum, not any particular message.

 b. Refreshing the page (command-R) eventually re-presents the same message (not the forum that's equated with the presented URL).

= Environment =

 * Safari 3.2
 * Mac OS X 10.5.5

Thanks for raising the issue. But that's the limitation with embedding. We cannot change the URL in the browser address box. You can move around in the embedded area, but the URL in the browser box will always be the initial url. You can use "permalink" to refer to any nabble page - that's all that we can do.

More specifically, we expect to see in the address bar:

* not the nabble.com URL (redirection is understood)

* not the plone.org URL of the _collection of forums_

* instead: the plone.org URL _of the message_ (the result of the redirect).

The issue here is that I gain a URL that relates _in only the vaguest way_ to the message within the window.

(A URL for a collection of many forums can not be thought of as a URL for a message ;)

Might this be an issue that presents only in Safari/WebKit?

Also present in Firefox 3.0.4.

Less present when I command-click  (to open within a new tab) on a search result, or on some other type of link — which more often than not, I do.

Postscript: clarified the sentence above.

OK … now I get it.

The vast majority of my views of embedded Nabble are the result of command-clicks from an embedded starting point, so (for me) it's most common to see a properly related URL. (Happily, rare for me to see URLs that don't relate.)
