ex; if one comments + i see they on line, then am i able to comment + continue back + forth??
i never tried it.

The small ball is an indication that the user is registered, logged in and has your forum open in their browser, but not necessarily the tab in view. They may even have another application covering their browser, so seeing the ball does not mean that they will respond immediately to a post that you make - but it is certainly more likely than when the ball is missing.
