Your wish list for Nabble

Hugo <Nabble>
Please reply to this post with the top 5 features you would like to see at Nabble's website.
Some ideas are:
 - internationalization,
 - labels (like Gmail has),
 - ability to add friends (social app),
 - localized users & posts (on a map)
 - chat rooms
 - etc.

You can add any feature to your wish list, even if it is not in the list above.
So, what's in your wish list?

I just tried Nabble today for the first time.  Pretty good so far.  My first time settin up a free forum.

When logged in as admin, I'd like to see an additional option under "options>users>who can view & post".  NOt sure what to call this option, but this option would block users from even being able to see that a subform exists unless they are subscribed to it.

For example, my company is tryin to use a forum to allow our clients to view progress of our projects.  Instead of our employees constantly emailing, we'd like them to post status messages as forum posts, since this leaves a public and open "paper trail" as to status, dates, etc.  Let's say we have ClientA and ClientB, out of 100 clients.  When ClientA logs into the top level forum, the only subforum they would see is "ClientA projects".  ClientB would only see "ClientB projects".  When the admin logs in, they see a whole list of all 100 subforums designated for each client.

As a client, when you first gain authorization into the top level, you would see nothing.  Thus, there would be nothing further to click on, get denied, and send an authorization request for.  So, instead, the admin would need an "invite" feature to bring in people who can now view that forum.

1. labels

...and that's pretty much it for now. Nabble is quite cool.

1. Labels
2. The ability to add rank names for forums (i.e. if you've posted a certain number of posts in a forum, you can achieve a certain rank—typically, there would be between 3–8 ranks); I mean to suggest that forum owners can customize the rank names, the posts required to achieve a rank, and how many ranks there are (within reason).
3. I want to be able to do the following on my private blog: Make it so only family can see some posts, and so that only certain others can see certain other posts, etc.
4. Internationalization (it's not that I would benefit greatly from this so much as I think Nabble would).
5. Friends

I know you only said five, but let me list another:
6. The ability to collapse signatures, and to have them collapsed by default (this way, if someone with a huge signature posts a lot, you won't be annoyed).

1. Improve threaded views: allow the viewer to normalise the chronological order of the branches within the tree.

2. To existing privacy, add security and encryption: SSL.

3. Nabble as an OpenID consumer.

4. Allow the forum owner to obscure avatars by default.

5. Simple strikethrough, without converting to HTML.

(1 = my greatest priority, 5 = least priority.)

Cheers

1. Shortcuts to my favourite forums from Nabble's start page (being able to get to a fav forum with as few mouse clicks and/or mouse movements as possible).
2. More support (or maybe just exposing it more / making it more "viral"?) for organizing forums in browsing categories.

I would like one very simple thing.. the ability to customize the page that your embedded forum redirects too. For example, I am creating a simple website for a friend inside of iWeb and because the nabble code must be placed inside a widget frame this makes the redirect option useless.  It reads the page the embedded content is on within the frame and not the webpage itself that the forum is embedded on.

Simple fix and very high on my wishlist.. just let us redirect it to whatever page we want.

Thanks.

In your case, you should add a javascript that checks if the page is inside the frame and - if not - you just redirect the user to the right page.

Re: Your wish list for Nabble

A simple request

When logged out there is a link to log in appears at the top right hand side of ther screen next to my user name.

When logged in could we have a log out link in the same place.

I want to use different user names and signatures depending on which nabble forum I'm posting in and it is very frustrating to have to navigate through the user name to log out making switching between forums unnecessarily complicated.

For me now, I'm getting used to it but the log out option is it is not an intuitive location. For new users unfamiliar with nabble this is a problem

I'm only just starting to experiment with Nabble, but here's a few things that I think could be useful...

- When using the "mixed view" to show new content from multiple sub-forums, it would be great if the section for each sub-forum was appropriate to its content. For instance, blogs and forums would have a list of headlines, but a gallery would have images. The nearest compromise at the moment seems to be "Newspaper" view, but that doesn't seperate out posts from each sub-forum.

- Being able to post-date messages. Often when a blog or forum is starting out, it's great to have the moderator post new content every day - it encourages discussion and repeat visits. But moderators might have more time to write posts on one day then another, so it's good to be able to create a bunch of posts on interesting subjects and assign them to dates in the future when they'll be automatically published. It's also useful for posting automatic reminders of upcoming events.

- Giving the forum owner the option of having the forum description appear above all posts in that forum, rather than just on the index page.

- an ability for forum owners to customise the form for messages in a particular forum. For instance, if there's a forum for promoting events, it makes sense to have fields on the form for date, venue, event title... It would ensure some kind of consistency in the way that messages in a forum are formatted.

- a system of tags/labels, with the forum owner setting the option of whether a message can only be tagged by the person who posted it, or whether anyone can add tags.

Anyway, I'm enjoying working with Nabble - it seems like a system with a lot of potential.

I want the newspaper has the page long control function (like you can display 6 headlines or posts on 1 page). Now i cant control this in my newspaper as well as gallery. It makes my website getting longer and longer.

Things I'd like to see added to Nabble

- The Ability to display News Papers in Order of Date the Topics where posted and not the order of the date the Comments where posted (at the moment if a user comments on an old news article it move back to the top of the list, meaning my News Page -and I assume other peoples- is not in the correct order)

- User to User PM (Private messaging) system

- Customizable Rank System

- Internationalization

- Customizable Emoticons

1. admins usernames a different color.
2.A private messaging system within the forum, not a email.
3.a limit on post per second, so the forum doesnt get spammed.
4. more smilys, or ability to get more.

  1. Login/logout link at top right of each page;
  2. Admin ability to reorder forums and categories instead of limiting them appearing in order they were created;
  3. Ability to invite non-Nabble users to join my Bulletin Board (right now invites can be sent to subscribe to a BB or forum, but I don't really want to ask people to subscribe for email updates, just to join the BB (and Nabble));
  4. Ability to designate authorized users en masse (via email addresses seperated by comma or semi-colon) instead of one at a time; and
  5. Private messaging (PM) & Chat.
Keep up the great work!
