Removing the View More button

Flick
Recently, a View More button has begun displaying on my site. I have pagination set at 25 threads which is far more simpler and easier than clicking a View More button, which undermines the board's pagination setting. I really want to get rid of this feature in the worst way. How can we do this?

Not just you - it started on my forum yesterday too - still have a thread going about it and have found no solution yet - no idea why it should suddenly appear.

The 'view more' doesn't work for me either.

http://bangor-civic-society-message-board-forum.2217623.n2.nabble.com/Jones-P-E-Thesis-on-Hirael-tp7573533.html

Sometimes the 'view more' doesn't appear,
sometimes it's not seen by the user
sometimes it's there... even though there's no more content to view.

It seems like a good optional feature, but not to roll out to everyone without a way to turn it off.

I agree Matt.

My users find it all most irritating -

Having to keep clicking on 'view more' all the time to get to the new posts.

Being taken to the first page of a thread all the time rather than the most recent one.

If anyone knows why this has suddenly started happening and how we can revert back to the old layout can they please tell us as we would most appreciate it.

I agree and not to apply any more pressure but sooner rather than later. I'm not going to wait around for months for a solution while this useless feature continues to kick my users in the groin with its dysfunctionality. I really like the Nabble forum platform but I will switch or eliminate it altogether if I have to put up with this. For all intentional purposes, the Nabble forum is now broken due to this feature.

Hi Sparkle/Flick,

Have you both responded to Raven<Nabble>'s request for a forum URL. I don't see a response in this topic, but you may have emailed privately.

I note that the one forum URL posted here is on the n2 server. I have forums on all the servers n3-n8 and none of them seem affected by the issue. Are yours both on n2?

Agree 100% - if there's not a fix by the end of the week, buh bye nabble (never to return).

My site uses weebly, one of the more common web site generators.  Based on a) my touching of nothing to do with code, b) the commonality of weebly, and c) this happening to scores of other people, there's little doubt that nabble itself generated this mess.

I get the feeling this might have been done in an effort to make nabble more useful on cell phones, but who can say?  All I know is that it needs to get fixed pronto.

The old saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it" applies in spades.

Re: Removing the View More button

Raven<Nabble>
Hello everyone,
I replied to the email I received, the issue is solved. He changed the name of his root forum and has to change the links in the embedding page to match.

You can post your link here or message me and I can check your site to see if it has the same problem.

This one is the same problem. For your site, change this:
<a id="nabblelink" href="http://bangor-civic-society-forum.2217623.n2.nabble.com/">Bangor Civic Society | Forum</a>
<script src="http://bangor-civic-society-forum.2217623.n2.nabble.com/embed/f2217623"></script>
to this:
<a id="nabblelink" href="http://bangor-civic-society-message-board-forum.2217623.n2.nabble.com/">Bangor Civic Society | Forum</a>
<script src="http://bangor-civic-society-message-board-forum.2217623.n2.nabble.com/embed/f2217623"></script>

I did send him my URL via email. The problem still exist on my site, even in the example Raven<Nabble> posted where he said he fixed it. I check out the link and it's still there.  As underworld said, we haven't changed a thing. This problem is located in the main code.

Yes I've not changed anything on mine either so definitely not my fault - must be something Nabble have done for it to affecting a few of us (maybe a lot more?) like this.  I shall message Raven now.

Re: Removing the View More button

Well my private message to Raven got refused and sent back saying that 'it wasn't accepted for policy reasons!

So here it is:
Hi Raven - I have been having problems the last few days with the introduction of the 'view more' button which is very annoying. Also when there is a new post to a longish thread it pates you to page 1 rather than o the end of the thread such as page 21 (I know when a thread reaches 50 pages it does this but then we start a new one - this is a new problem different from this).
My forum is at http://guptachat.blogspot.com/ but I am not sure how you can see it as it is a private closed forum as some people have personal medical issues.

Flick,
You are correct that this is caused by a change on our side, related to the implementation of HTTPS. All websites are expected to have HTTPS nowadays, so the changes had to be made. Because of this, the URLs must match in order to prevent cross-origin issues.

Please update the embed code on your website as per the email I sent you and let me know when you've done that.

-------

Sparkle,
I did receive your email actually.

It appears that your problem is the same.
You need to change the embed code in your website, from this:
<a id="nabblelink" href="http://guptachat.826.n7.nabble.com/">guptachat</a>
<script src="http://guptachat.826.n7.nabble.com/embed/f1"></script>
To this:
<a id="nabblelink" href="http://gupta-chat-more.826.n7.nabble.com/">guptachat</a>
<script src="http://gupta-chat-more.826.n7.nabble.com/embed/f1"></script>

-------

The general solution:
(If your forum requires users to log in to read the forum, you will need to be logged in to see this)
In the top left of your site, there is a link to the root of your forum. You can copy that link and replace the existing urls in the embed code with the updated domain.

Re: Removing the View More button

GregChapman
I came here to say I have just discovered a page that produces the "view more" link - only to discover that a solution has been found.

I have a site with multiple sub-forums of the same forum embedded in different pages of the host site.

When I need to tweak administrator-only options I normally visit the root page direct and do not use the page on the main site in which the root page is embedded. Today I did for the first time in months - and the "view more" link appeared.

It was a forum I created over a year ago and and I changed the name within days of creating the forum. This has, indeed, changed the embedding code and. sure, enough, updating the embedding code to reflect the current forum URL has cured the issue.

Thanks for the solution!
