Question! Please answer!

Kaarle_W
Hello Nabble staff and users.
I was just praising my new forum (looks really great!! :D) when I noticed there's nothing under my avatar...
Can I make it so that users' post counts become visible and can I add member titles somehow?

Thank you in advance, waiting for your answers,

Kaarle

May I ask why do you want to see the post count?

With Nabble, the count of a user's posts includes all his posts. He may have posted to your forums but also other forums. So, a guy with 10 posts may have contributed more to your forum than a guy with 50 posts.

You mean to have a special label to indicate the status of a "member"? Can you tell us what does a "member" mean? i.e. what things are member-only?

I ask this because a public forum doesn't really have a membership concept. In a public forum anybody can view and post.

if this is the case, then obviously I don't need the post counts and member titles to be visible.

I ask this because a public forum doesn't really have a membership concept. In a public forum anybody can view and post.
I have 2 questions to ask:

1. Regarding the reply to Kaarle_W:
I'm also interested in both a post count indicater, below the avatar, as with other forum types. And also, a member status label.
Now from what I see of your reply to Kaarle_W, it would appear that Nabble is very similar to easyboard, in it's construction, whereby a member can be logged into many forums at the same time. Am I correct in this assumption? If I am, then, although the post count is irrelavent, depending on how many other forums a given member belongs to. A great many members, do like to see the postcount show. They treat it like a status symbol. They also seem to like the idea, and conscept of the member status, as this indicates the length of time they have been a member. It also helps new members, by letting them know who to contact through posting, if they have a problem or would like some information regarding the forum layout.

2. I notice that there is no option, for a General Moderator, or Moderator. That in fact, the only way to upgrade a member to a forum, is to give them equal power as you. Is there a function for making a General Moderator, or Moderator? If not, will there, or could there be one added. My reason, is because, if the Admin of the forum is away, it would be useful if there is someone to moderate the posts of members, and keep the forum, in good order.

Thanks for asking questions. They are our best feedback. Please see my response below:

Yes. One forums' users may go to other forums, either by doing a search, or wondering around, or they may be googling and stumble upon another forum on Nabble. As long as it's a public forum, any registered Nabble users can view and post.

We can show the "post count: 1345", and the "member since 5/6/2007" stuff under an avatar. But just want to confirm, do you consider those useful even if they are not related to your forum?  I may have 2000 nabble posts and been a member since 2007 but I could be a first-time poster to your forum. Wouldn't this confuse your users?

By the way, Nabble is very much user driven. So, we add features if enough people ask for it. We just want to make sure the features are really needed.

Under Options->Control User Privileges, you can add co-owners. Co-owners can moderate forum the same way was you do. Does it work for you?

You once again miss the point. I created this board. To give others exactly the same authority as myself, would be like owning my own home and giving a stranger a set of key's to it then allowing them to have as much right to do with my home, as they want. I have found to my cost, that giving others the same power as yourself, often leads to chaos; conflict of interest, and trouble. As you may be aware, I was using the Testmember, I created, when I wrote this post.

Thanks for the feedback.

There is a small critical difference in Creator (you) and Co-owners (them). A creator can always terminate a co-owner. So, if a co-owner doesn't live up to your standard, you can remove him.

But if this is just not what you want, can you point us to a forum hosting service or a forum product that has the ideal separation of "owner" vs "owner-granted-moderator". I'll look into it.

Please refer to this post on your board, and to the link that has been placed there.

in regards to this part:
Personally, I really didn't mind the advertisement banners when they were here.
