Possible Alternate Hosting For Nabble Apps

Gary Lewis
I am in the process of having an instance of Nabble installed on my Amazon Web Services servers in order to run my forum - Garysgaragemahal. That is to ensure that the forum can survive long term given what Franklin said about The Future of Nabble on his servers.

I think I'm doing that with Franklin's tacit approval since he has known about it and recently suggested that Filimonov help us. In other words, I'm not trying to take business away from him. In fact, I think I'm helping him because he wants to reduce the amount of traffic and cycles on his servers.

I've had no interest in running a service for others, but with the recent changes to Nabble that have hurt many of the forums I'm now considering allowing others to run their forums on the AWS servers - for a fee.

If you want to discuss this come to the topic Alternative Hosts for Nabble Apps on the GregHelp forum.

And if Franklin doesn't want me to do this then I hope he will say so. I certainly appreciate having been able to run my forum on his servers without compensation for the last four years, and do not want to cause him any problems.

This is fine with me.  The recent changes have been to eliminate the need to connect to a POP mail server.  This should simplify installing Nabble and moving forums.  I plan consolidate active forums onto one server and get rid of the other servers to cut costs.  I make no money from Nabble so it is actually better for me if people would use other servers.

Thank you, Franklin.

But, from what I am reading there are several who depend on the ability to respond via email.  So if we do this we will probably run the open source version which should have everything enabled.

I've tried registering to comment in the GregHelp forum - but I am not getting the link to confirm (yes - checked spam, etc)

I would be HAPPY to pay to keep my Nabble (with my customizations). This change is about to put my subscription website out of business completely.   I like Nabble - I like my customizations - and I would prefer not to go somewhere else (I am trying out Dada - and it is ok - but not as nice).

Pick me!! I'm happy to pay a monthly fee

Patti - I don't know why you can't get registered on GregHelp.  But Greg is out and about at the moment so maybe he can look into it when he gets a chance.

Anyway, what is a "subscription website"?  Just wondering how much traffic we are talking about.  Can you give me a link?

So, you are the 2nd to say that they want onboard.  Lets see if Pedro can get this going ASAP and we can figure out how to make it happen.

I did finally get registered :)

Subscription website - My site is is a fee based site. People pay to subscribe to my members only site - and we use the Nabble forum to communicate - to subscribed/paid members only

Unfortunately - with the change - my business is being damaged terribly -
1) My members WANT to be able to use email
2) people who once were members (some quite some time ago) that are not more - were unsubscribed from our Members - but not from individual forums. Because of the change those people are now receiving emails - complaining, marking as spam, etc. I am unable to unsubscribe them - because that option (or customization we added) has been removed.

If I don't do something quick - I will be out of business (and have been in for over 25 years :( )

I have been trying a different service - it works ok, but Nabble really does what I need - and I am and have always been willing to pay for the service - I don't know why the people at Nabble didnt just make it a pay service instad of just tossing us to the wind
