Please remove numbers from forums' URLs

andrewbb
aspire48.nabble.com

Please fix it.  There is no reason to add a jumble of numbers to prepend the URL.  N8?  Why?

Also, if there is a blank space, do NOT replace it with a hyphen.  Just remove it.

You have a great, clean interface.  Why do you destroy your own company?

Nabble hosts tens of thousands of forums. It spreads the load across a number of servers. n8 is the Nabble server on which your forum is hosted.

Each forum on each server needs to have a unique name. Many forum owners embed their forum within their main site and, understandably, give them names which are the same as others that have already been created. Adding a further random set of numbers ensures that each forum on each server has a unique address.

If you do not plan to embed your forum within another site (where the URL of your forum becomes largely irrelevant to ordinary users) then you need to register a domain of your choice and use the settings at:
Options > Application > Change domain name
to make sure that requests to your domain name get redirected to the appropriate forum on Nabble's servers.

As you'll know a blank space is not a valid character in a domain name.

Nabble cannot assume that removing a space from a forum name is the appropriate conversion to make when converting it to an acceptable URL.

This is another reason why you might wish to consider registering your preferred domain name.

Lost in techie land....

There is no technical reason for changing
aspire48.nabble.com
to
aspire-48.123456.n8.nabble.com

1.  Please allow new users to select their own domain prefix:  MySite.nabble.com
2.  You can upsell a domain name after they build traffic.

There never was the domain you say that was converted to another one by Nabble. What you created was a forum with the name aspire-48. Nabble simply applied its usual formula to guarantee a unique domain name. If you want a personalised domain name register one yourself. Nabble provide you with the option to do this, in the same way that all other similar free services do, eg Weebly, Wix, WordPress, etc.

If you want a specific domain name you should register it and pay for that registration.

Nabble would undoubtedly charge you more than you could register the domain name for yourself.
