message cross-posted to two ezmlm lists appears in only one of the two corresponding Nabble fora

Graham Perrin
Considering that message in greater detail,
<http://ux.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=discuss&msgNo=2689&raw=true>
<http://ux.openoffice.org/servlets/ReadMsg?list=ui&msgNo=120&raw=true>

Message-Id: <745E5866-ADC7-4785-A1CC-685DDD9B69D6@free.fr>

* was cross-posted to two lists

* (both lists are archived by Nabble)

* appears in only one of the two fora, at <http://n2.nabble.com/Re%3A--ux-discuss--FLUX-UI-tp1916614p1916614.html>.

Multiple posts to list are missing from the corresponding Nabble forum

Graham Perrin
In reply to this post by Graham Perrin
<http://ux.openoffice.org/servlets/BrowseList?listName=discuss&by=date&from=2008-12-01&to=2008-12-31&first=1&count=148> four posts to list since 25th December (the date on which Nabble archiving commenced).

<http://n2.nabble.com/-f1804488.html> only one post (the one that I made using Nabble).

At least three messages to list are missing from the Nabble forum.

@ Nabble: please, any ideas?

list archive duplication :(

Graham Perrin
I did search Nabble before creating a forum.
<http://n2.nabble.com/forum/Search.jtp?query=ux.openoffice.org> shows only the two list archives (and parent forum) subsequently created by me.

An afterthought, in response to problems:

<http://www.nabble.com/forum/Search.jtp?query=ux.openoffice.org> leads me to <http://www.nabble.com/OpenOffice-f12770.html> and I realise that

* despite thoughtfully searching Nabble before creating fora, my Nabble 2 efforts are a duplication of other people's efforts :(

* a guess: someone else's Nabble 1 effort (in relation to a recently created OOo list) may be a duplication of my Nabble 2 effort :(

This prompts a significant suggestion for improvement to the forum creation process, which I have made a separate topic.

I'll liaise with owners of the OpenOffice.org fora in the Nabble 1 area.

problem not explained; I can find no other Nabble 1 or Nabble 2 forum that is archiving discuss@ux.openoffice.org

This problem in Nabble 2 remains unexplained; a closer inspection/search of Nabble 1 <http://www.nabble.com/OpenOffice-f12770.html> and its ten children, maybe 22 grand-children, maybe 57 great-grandchildren reveals:

* no other Nabble 1 or Nabble 2 forum archiving any list @ux.openoffice.org

-- only, the two Nable 2 fora created by me.

Please: help/advice! http://n2.nabble.com/-f1804488.html still missing all posts to list

Graham Perrin
At parent <http://n2.nabble.com/forum/PrivacySettings.jtp?forum=1803106> I had mistakenly opted to

[√] Restrict New Topics

but I believe that should not have affected the child.

In any case, the child
<http://n2.nabble.com/forum/PrivacySettings.jtp?forum=1804488> was, and still is,

[ ] Restrict New Topics (not restricted)
[x] Everyone Can View & Post (not restricted)

At child <http://n2.nabble.com/-f1804488.html> the only threads present are the two that I placed there. The last post was supposedly on 31st December.

---

I received (to my personal Inbox, the address for which I have left
subscribed to the list, for troubleshooting purposes)
two messages dated 1st January 2009,
both addressed to discuss@ux.openoffice.org
both with 'Improving styles' in their subject lines.

The two 1st January 2009 messages to list are missing from the Nabble archive of the list.

Curiously, the two 1st January 2009 messages are
missing from the OpenOffice.org archive of the list:
<http://ux.openoffice.org/servlets/SummarizeList?listName=discuss>
<http://srl.diigo.com/12tm>

(AFAIR this is the first time that I have noticed things missing from the OOo archive of the list. There is typically a delay of only a few minutes.)

Should we suspect an issue with the OOo list server?

TIA for any advice
Graham

probably deferring action on http://n2.nabble.com/-f1804488.html archive of discuss@ux.openoffice.org

For reference only, I quote below some detail of symptoms of problems within the openoffice.org domain and beyond.

As the problems within the openoffice.org domain seem to date from 29th December, there remains the possibility/likelihood that some *other* factor affects my problems with Nabble archiving of the list (which should have commenced on 25th December).

In any case:

* it may be wise to defer Nabble action on this topic until after I receive a response concerning the OOo list service.

Graham

In reply to this post by Graham Perrin
This and other messages to discuss@ux.openoffice.org list have not been archived because they have X-No-Archive:yes header. It is an annoying default for some ezmlm lists to add this to all messages. You can edit the mailing list settings on Nabble2 to ignore this header, then all messages will be archived.

Thanks - for discuss@ux.openoffice.org I have now set [√] Ignore X-No-Archive Header

Graham Perrin
@ tomi

Thanks for the explanation! I have set the option for one ux.openoffice.org list that is clearly affected, also for one other ux.openoffice.org list that is maybe unaffected (but may be affected in the future; a precaution).

I guess that it will be polite to notify the list managers that I have taken this step (the ignorance of the header) to enable archiving.

In any case, I did announce to both lists on 25th December that Nabble archives are offered; and there are masses of comparable archives in the Nabble 1 domain.

Graham

distinguishing two sets of symptoms affecting ux.openoffice.org, and closing this topic

It transpires (thanks to tomi) that the symptoms were unrelated.

<http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=97717> notes recent issues with various list archives in the openoffice.org domain.

All things considered I treat this Nabble Support topic as resolved, fixed.

Thanks again!

(Postscript: PEBKAM, not an issue with Nabble service!)
