Nabble Changes - need new forum

stmpspaz
The changes that Nabble are making are going to put me out of business :(

I run a subscription website - and a HUGE part of it is our forum. The members INSIST on being able to receive and respond to the messages via email. They do NOT want to have to go to the site to view and respond. The ease of email makes for instant communication - and that is what they are looking for.

Has anyone found another service that has an online feature that allows you to send and respond via email?

I am desperate at this time - the changes that have already been made in the past day or two are causing my subscribers to drop.

Thanks for you private mail! Still looking for you! Apart from https://groups.io You may find a search for "googlegroup alternatives" brings up some results worthy of investigation, but it can be a job picking out those that are one-way marketing tools from those than encourage community participation. I thought this one might be a candidate:
https://www.simplelists.com/products.php/

The web host I use runs cPanel as the control panel for customers. That includes the open source "Mailman" software for operating as many mail lists as you like. Often full web site hosting services can work out as cheap as some of the maillist hosting services that I've found. Most include "site builder" software as part of the package too.

And this search came up with more results that I thought could be relevant:

Hi Patti,

I was searching for something completely different and came across this:
https://disroot.org/en/services/forum
the accompanying basics how-to at
https://howto.disroot.org/en/tutorials/forum/basics
and particularly for you...
https://howto.disroot.org/en/tutorials/forum/mailinglist

It won't be a solution for all as you need to install the software at your account with a hosting service.

I have now read more on Discourse and have discovered that it's more of a full blown Nabble than a single forum for a single administrator. The costs are quite high if you want to run your forum on their server, and it takes the same kind of high end hosting facilities as Nabble (Ubuntu 16.04 LTS server, Postgres 13+, Redis 6+ and Ruby 2.7) to get it running, al though the install process itself is reported to be fairly simple thanks to using "Docker" as an installation tool.

It's over the top for my needs as someone who runs low traffic forums and blogs, with users numbering in the low hundreds at most, many of whom only post once or twice then disappear.
