Lots of spam via the Nabble private message system....

Joe Ranger
Lots of our members are getting a lot of spam when they send a member a private message!  Is there someway to stop this spam?  Thanks Joe

Nabble has no private message system. It uses ordinary email, so it is unlikely to be anything to do with Nabble directly.

More likely, one of your users has an attacked/compromised email account and it is their address book that has been harvested and is being used to send spam. The best you can do is probably to try to narrow down the user with the bad email address.

Joe, I use a free non-intrusive tracker called statcounter. it lets me watch a visitors path. when I get a new member notification, I watch their path to see if they start visiting our members profile pages but never post, then I check with my members to see if they've gotten new spam. if yes, I ban the culprit. this has turned out to be effective as in "better than nothing." look at my main page source code to see where I put the statcounter snippet, then go to statcounter.com and setup your own account. I am not affiliated with statcounter.

also, I have set my permissions so that new registrations can only post in one forum, and only after I've screened them do I add them to a new group that can roam the messageboard at will.

hope this is helpful.
