Hello,
Can someone please help? I have set up a forum on my website www.videoastronomylive.co.uk and would like all links to come back to the site and not to the Nabble version. The main problem is due to these colours I use for my site you can not see my forum properly on Nabble. An example, I just wrote a post on my forum but shared it to my Facebook page. However, when you click on the link in FB it takes you to Nabble and not my site. I have tried to change the setting myself from Options, embedding options and then redirect users but that has not worked. Hope someone can help Thanks Karl |
Hi Karl,
I looked at your site and the URL redirects as expected. For example, visit this link and keep an eye on the address bar: http://video-astronomy-live.38158.n7.nabble.com/Spacedout-tp62.html So the problem is that you have an embedding page that is not connected to your main website. Ideally you should have a page like http://www.videoastronomylive.co.uk/forum.html with your background, header and footer available, and the forum embedded in. Is that possible? Another solution would be to set the redirect to the main forum page: http://www.videoastronomylive.co.uk/#!video-astronomy-live---chat/cct2, but this won't work well because you use the hash (#) in the URL and Nabble also needs the hash to communicate with the embedded forum. So if you can remove the hash from your URL, then I can set the redirect for you and the problem would be solved. What do you think? |
Hello Hugo,
I am new to all this and as green as you can get so I'm a little but lost sorry :( How do I remove the hash from my URL? Thank you |
This depends on the technology you use. I looked at the source code of your page and I believe you use Wix. Is this correct? Can you please check if they have an option for navigation without the hashes?
If you can't find an answer for the question above, is it possible to create a static page like /forum.html that contains the header, background, etc? This would be the best solution, but I am not sure you have this option. Please let us know. |
Okay thanks Hugo I'll take a look and yes it is Wix HTML 5

Okay still and even more confused but does this make sense to you hugo?

And this, not sure if it is possible but I need all links to come back to my site so anything else that can be done? Thanks |
What they suggested won't work. I am surprised that they don't have an easy way to create clean URLs on the browser. Websites should be simple and what they created is a complex technology that makes simple things very hard to do.
The point is that they don't work without the hash in the URL. So this is incompatible with our embedded forums. I see one solution though. The only page that doesn't have the hash is the homepage. So you could, for example, create a URL like forum.videoastronomylive.co.uk that goes to another Wix site with the same look as the current one. So you embed the forum on the homepage of that second site. Then the "Forum" link on the top menu should go to that second URL. The trouble is that you would have to maintain both sites instead of one. Is this possible? |
Hello Hugo, Thanks for trying to help but I'll just have to leave it as it is for now. I do not really want a separate website and that is why I wanted the forum embedded in the first place so my site was a one stop shop. I see you have changed something so it links back to my home page which is an improvement and everything else seems to work well so I'll live with it until I think of another solution. Thank you very much for your help and no doubt I'll have other questions very soon :) Thanks Karl From: "Hugo <Nabble> [via Nabble Support]" <[hidden email]> To: Spacedout <[hidden email]> Sent: Saturday, 10 January 2015, 2:05 Subject: Re: Links back to my website only
