Help with my forum

Ruralinfo.net
Hello Nabble,

A month or so ago, you helped me fix my main forum so the topic list did not show on the front page.

These two forums work correctly..

http://ruralinfo.net/ruralmailtalk.html
http://ruralinfo.net/transfers.html

Could you please help me with my other forums to do the same thing..  I dont know why they dont all just show in the sub forums??  It is weird, because a couple of the forums work fine, but the others show the topic list up top..

Both links work for me. Do you still have problems? Which browser? Do you see JavaScript errors?

They work for me Hugo, but I would like only the sub forums to show on my front page.. Not the first group that has all topics..  You helped me my main forum, rural mail talk, linked above in the past to get rid of the topics group at the top of the forums..

Thanks

The problem is that you have posts directly under the Ruralinfo Classifieds forum, so we cannot hide them. One solution is to move these posts to their right sub-forum (e.g. Parts, Wanted, etc.) and lock the Ruralinfo Classifieds forum so that people are forced to post in a sub-forum. Some instructions:

(1) How to move a post to a sub-forum: copy the link of the sub-forum to your clipboard and then open the post, click on More > Move post to... and paste the link.

(2) How to lock the parent forum and force users to post in a sub-forum: click on "Options > Users > Who can view & post?" and select "Everyone can participate, but restricted topics".

Hugo, I have both front pages of the forum set to:

Options > Users > Who can view & post?" and select "Everyone can participate, but restricted topics".

But they are somehow still able to start new topics...

Re: Help with my forum

I tried to post there and it forced me to choose a sub-forum. This is how things should work. I believe you changed this configuration after September 22 (date of the last post in that section). Do you confirm? In any case, I don't see an easy solution, except move post by post to the right sub-forum. I checked the database and there are only 17 posts under Ruralinfo Classifieds. So it won't be a big effort.

Note that this problem doesn't happen with Rural Carrier Transfers (there is no "Topics" section above the sub-forums).

Re: Help with my forum

I could have changed the configuration Hugo,I dont remember doing it, but I was confused at first on the user posting options..  I am now confused that you only see 17 posts, as I see 199..

I will start manually moving them to their respective categories..

I do notice that once I click on view more under the topics section from the front page, all of the individual posts are already designated in a sub forum but are still showing..

Thanks for your help..

The "199" number is actually a count of all descendant posts, including those in sub-forums. We will fix this bug soon. It should show 17.

Please move only posts from that "Topics" section. You don't have to move topics that are already in a sub-forum.
