Editing a user's post

Jose - russianforfree.com
Hi everyone,

I think there used to be an "edit post" feature that now I can't find... Is there a way to edit a post of a user?

For me that's useful to edit the title of topics to make it more topic related, since usually people write titles like "question" "please help" "do you know this?" and so on.

Thanks
Jose

Try: OPTIONS > USERS > CHANGE PERMISSIONS > EDIT_ALL

It is a right that is only available to those who belong to the "Administrators" group, so if you have a special group of members who help you administer your forum and you have put in a "Moderators" group, you can't give this right to them.

Thanks Greg. I knew I had seen that somewhere!

How would I make someone being able to edit other user's posts without making him an Admin?
I mean, I want to create a some "Moderator" group & let them edit other user's posts but that's only possible for Admin group, but I don't want someone else to have all the access to the forum codes, apps, settings, etc.

I too would like to see more of the permissions that go only to those in the Administrator's group be available to assign elsewhere, so I can create more powerful moderators without giving them the permission that would allow them to remove my Admin status and take over the forum. (At my time of life I am more aware of my mortality and I do believe that having someone to continue a forum in the event of me being unavailable is worthwhile, so having one trusted fellow Administrator is a good idea.)

In the mean time (unless you have the skill - that I don't - to edit the NAML appropriately) the best you can do is:

• Give your Moderator group the permission to MOVE posts.
• Create a sub-forum where moderated posts can be moved.
(You can make this completely invisible to regular users with the use of the option at:
Options > Extra & Add-ons > Content > Smart application pages )

The moderator could then move the message to the hidden sub-forum, reply to the offending post and, using the quote facility, edit the original author's wording, and then move the post back to the original form. (Note that this would also move any later replies back to the original area too.)

Obviously, the original author loses authorship of the post using this method, but you could consider that an advantage as:

• It makes clear that it is a message edited by a named moderator while retaining the original author's name in the quote header.

• It allows you to over-ride your moderator, remove his edited version and re-instate the original post.

It is for this reason that I never delete people's posts. I always move them. It allows me to retain the evidence in case of any dispute and to reverse my decision if I later change my mind.

Greg, that's what I did too - having a hidden forum where questionable posts can be moved by a Mod, edited by Admin & moved back.  Though my friend doesn't like that he doesn't have enough powers here after being an Admin on his forumotion version of the forum.  Asks to make him an Admin here but that's too much, because I don't want to be something accidentally or purposely messed up or deleted after a fine time I spent on adjusting everything.  So I'm wondering if I can somehow change something to give him ability to edit (only) posts too.
