Bug: "0 New Posts" Digests Being Received When Posts Exist

GregChapman
Hi Hugo,

On the 29 Jan the forum: http://aivuk-forum.33396.n7.nabble.com/Noticeboard-f2.html generated a "0 New Posts" digest message, but posts were made the 24 hours before.

This has happened again on 30 Jan and 2 Feb. (On 31 Jan and 1 Feb no posts were made in the previous 24 hours and no "0 Posts" digest were received.

The "0 New Posts" messages contain no links to the posts that were made.

(And as a BTW, the URL in the footer for the forum itself does not act as a link, making it awkward for users to access the forum, if they wanted to visit the forum to investigate.)

I have now heard reports from other digest subscribers and they all report theirs were normal, stating the correct number of posts and including the usual snippets and links of each post.

Perhaps this is just affecting me as forum administrator?

Hugo <Nabble>
This is strange since we haven't changed anything on Nabble recently. I have looked into the daily subscription code and it uses the search index to find the posts that should be sent in the email message. There is a chance your forum has a broken index or something, but I couldn't check because your forum is private. Can you please try to search something in your forum? Just type something into the search box and hit ENTER. This may force the code to reindex the posts and fix the issue. Please let me know how it goes.

Thanks Hugo,

I think I've been an idiot!

I was half way through the process of making the suggested search. I  then realised that I had failed to take account of the fact that while my administrator id has an individual subscription to the sub-forum in question, I also have a "test" user and that is the one with the faulty digest subscription. At the same moment I realised that a few days ago that I removed the "Member" group from that user as part of a test I was doing and, of course, you need to be in the "Member" group to see posts anywhere on the forum.

So I'm 99.9% sure that things are working as they should - with just one of those little untidy idiosyncrasies that because of the retained digest subscription, my test user gets to know that posts have been made but not to see them. Obviously, I should have unsubscribed my test user from the digest at the time I removed it from the "Member" group to keep things clean.

I have reinstated my test user to the "Member" group. If this doesn't return things to normal, I'll report tomorrow. If you hear no more consider the issue resolved.

Idiocy confirmed.

Now my test user is, once again, a "Member" I have the the normal digest with snippets and links to all posts in the last 24 hrs.
