About the new forum-java-script upgrade

ES Admin
When I login to my forum as administrator, I am now being told that the old JS will not be supported in the near future (no date is given though...), and that I must add a new JS to the html of the forum-page.

My problem is, that Weebly (the ppl who host my site + other things) does not allow you to edit the html on a page-by-page basis; at least not in the usual way, so what do I do?  I cannot afford to lose my forum after the old/exisiting JS is no longer supported...

This is urgent, so any help really appreciated.

Thanks!

You will not lose your forum. We still don't have a date to stop supporting the old embedding code. Our first priority is to help users fix their pages and get rid of the old code. I will take a look at Weebly and see how you can do this. Other users that have full control over their HTML pages should change this as soon as possible in order to reduce our work load.

OK, so I won't lose the forum if I don't change to the new JS code strait way, thanks ;)  Regarding Weebly...  They provide a great service, etc, but one problem is that on  apage-by-page basis, they don't allow you to access or view the full html (page source) when using the control panel...

I investigated Weebly and I found a way to fix the embedding code. The idea is to use the "Custom HTML" widget to add the new embedding javascript code.

how to embed a forum on weebly

Please do that and let me know if you have issues.

Thanks Hugo ;)  Sorry for late reply...  Weebly's html widget must be the thing to do, because I tried adding the new JS code via the 'header-box widget' that Weebly uses or provides on a page-by-page basis, but this simply results in a big mess :)  Funnily, it was Weebly that told me to use their 'header-box widget'...  So I'll try the cutom html widget and see if that works...

OK - using Weebly's custom html widget worked!  Great

Trust Weebly to tell me to use the header-box widget.  Now I'm going to tell Weebly what they should have told me.  LOL!

I am getting JS Upgarde messages on my PC, but am very nervous of interfering with things that are currently running OK... and not just Nabble...

What will happen if I don't do it for a while?

Edit: My webhosting company tells us for their software...
"Check to be sure that Java VM is the only VM enabled on your computer."

Is this OK for the new Nabble JavaScript?

Hi all,

Is there already a date set for when the old javascipt won't work anymore?

Anne, Java VM is completely unrelated with JavaScript. Only their names start with "Java".

Lucas, I'll check if there is any date and get back to you but the new code seems to be working correctly by the feedback we are getting, so there is no reason to postpone. If you manage a site you may want to test it on a private page and once you see everything is ok, replace the code. But there is really no need for concern.

We don't have a date for that but it would be soon. Whenever you have changes like that to do (replacing working stuff with other working stuff) I suggest you change it while you can change back if you have any problems. It's better than waiting for the final date.
But I'm just saying it in a general way. I'm sure you won't have any problems. There is no reason to keep using the old code. Just change it. :-)

Hi Peter,

Tnx for your answer. The code is already updated, but the code is in a maven project. We need to deploy the new code to three different environments and that takes some effort. It would be a waste to only have to do that for this javascript update.

Again, thanks for your quick response.

Lucas

I added the new JS in a custom HTML box at the top of my page without altering any of the other code on the page.  Could you possibly check to see if I have done what you required?  Should I have erased the other code that I left below?  Thanks.

P.S.  Will Nabble remain free or is this the first step to a paid forum?

Please post the link to your page and we will take a look. But the idea is to really replace the old script with the new one.
